The Medical Device Department deals with registration of medical devices in Israel, with granting various types of import permits for medical devices, with monitoring the marketing of medical devices and with the issue of documents that assist in the export of medical devices.
The department maintains a registration, supervision and control system over the manufacture, import and marketing of medical devices.
The department is active in various professional frameworks within the Ministry of Health (special medical equipment forum, committees for the inclusion of medical devices in the health basket, and others) as well as in frameworks that are external to the Ministry (standards committees in the Standards Institution of Israel, inter-ministerial committees in radiation-related fields).
The Medical Device Department was initially established as the Medical Device Unit in 1993.
The Medical Device Department deals with licensing and supervision process for all types of medical devices and equipment, including rehabilitation and mobility devices, from the aspect of granting permission for registration in the registry of medical devices, and export and import permits for manufacturers and importers.
