This unit was established and began operating in 1965. It operates by force of the Law for Regulating Goods and Services in Respect of the Operation of Radiation Devices for Medical Purposes (1968).
The unit’s objective is to prevent unjustified exposure of the examinees, the medical staff and the general public to radiation within the processes of medical diagnosis and treatment. The unit controls and supervises the quality and reliability of all types of imaging equipment, building suitability from the radiation safety perspective, and equipment operators in an effort to increase their awareness and sensitivity regarding radiation safety.
