The Health Education department is charged with improving individual and community health through health promotion means. These means include health education and influencing health-conducive environmental changes, organizational and policy changes (including health-protection laws) and more.

The health education and promotion department is a consultative body, providing consulting, supervisory, enabling, and supportive services in a variety of collaborative frameworks. This is done in its role as a leading authority on national health-promotion programs. The department’s activities in recent years have been focused along two main lines in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s policy: 1) Reduction of obesity by adopting a more active lifestyle and better nutritional habits, and 2) smoking prevention.


Development and preservation of collaborative efforts is one of the cornerstones of the department’s activities. Among our partners are government ministries including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Culture and Sport and others. the department closely collaborates with a variety of organizations, including universities, research centers, the IDF, hospitals, the HMOs, the Israel Police, Ashalim-Joint (Abiliko), associations, The Israel Association of Community Centers, municipalities, local councils and more.
