In 1994, the Law for Compensation of Scalp Ringworm Victims 1994 (henceforth “the law”) was enacted.
The objective of the law is to compensate persons who were given radiation treatment to treat or prevent scalp ringworm between the dates 1-Jan-46 and 31-Dec-60, by the State, the Jewish Agency, the HMOs (kupot cholim), Hadassah Medical Organization or a party on their behalf, whether administered in Israel our outside of Israel as part of preparations for immigration to Israel, and as a result, have suffered one of the diseases listed in the addendum to the law. Consequent to the law, the National Center for Compensation of Scalp Ringworm Victims was established.
Roles of the Center
- Convening various types of committees under the provisions of the law.
- Implementing Section 7a of the law - “locating, registering and documenting every person who contracted scalp ringworm infection and received radiation treatment”.
- Responding to public inquiries.
- Coordinating and assisting in dealings with the labor court.
- Coordinating and assisting in dealings with civil legal courts.
- Implementing of the rulings of the various courts.
- Conducting historical and legal studies of scalp ringworm in Israel and internationally.
- Assisting with medical research on the topic of scalp ringworm.
