Public Health Nursing is a department within Public Health Services, which guides public health nursing policy.
Objectives
- Setting professional standards in public health nursing.
- Imbuing all providers of preventative services with the policy (Ministry of Health, the HMOs, municipalities, providers of student health services).
- Assurance of quality of treatment.
Activity Areas
- Development of professional guidelines.
- Supervision and control of preventative nursing work in district health bureaus / municipalities / HMOs and schools.
- Development and construction of tools for control and supervision of public health nursing.
- Collection and analysis of data at a national level.
- Preparation for states of emergency.
- Provision of consultation to Public Health Services on relevant topics.
- Surveillance of routine and deviant morbidity.
- Data collection regarding selected health conditions and lifestyles.
- Development of new topics and roles in public health nursing.
Professional Development
- Promotion of new fields of action in public health (identifying women who are victims of violence, identifying women with postpartum depression, promoting breastfeeding, consulting and working with groups of parents, premature babies, identification of pressure and stress victims).
- Development of enrichment programs for public health nurses in special fields such as: vaccinations, children’s and pregnant women’s nutrition, breastfeeding, premature babies, short-term intervention in conditions of stress, epidemiological investigations at times of emergency, and more.
- Construction of training/assistance kits for professionals in the fields of: child development, pregnancy monitoring, breastfeeding, identification of violence, and more.
- Conducting of surveys and studies.
- In the field of vaccinations: Writing procedures and guidelines, consultation, training, dealing with adverse events, immunization coverage, management of national inventory of vaccines, risk management, vaccinations for persons travelling abroad.
Consulting and Partnerships
- Representing the Ministry of Health, Public Health Services and Public Health Nursing in committees with other parties, such as: government ministries, national councils, HMOs, the JDC and others.
- Constructing interfaces and creating partnerships with various departments in the Ministry of Health and external parties (the Nursing Division, the Division of Dental Health, the Geriatrics Department, Information and Computing, and others).
Information for the General Public
Preparation of information leaflets and their distribution to the general public, e.g. prevention of infectious diseases in kindergartens and day care centers, and more.
