Specialized Medical Service

Specialized Medical Service provides comprehensive Medical Services suited specifically to treating a unique disease - a disease or syndrome characterized by specific symptoms (for example: Familial dysautonomia (FD), Rett Syndrome etc.).

The service is intended to treat a disease whose prevalence is low (total number of patients in Israel is small) and the treatment of which requires specific experience and skills, acquired by special training of a medical staff or special infrastructure.

The Specialized Medical Service center is staffed by a multidisciplinary team possessing professional skills and extensive medical experience in providing the required service to patients suffering from the specific disease. In addition, the center serves as an up-to-date knowledge center on issues relevant to the patients, their families and the medical staff.

Each person suffering from a unique disease, for which there is Specialized Medical Service, is entitled to receive treatment for that disease within this service.
It is important to not that receiving this treatment does not preclude the HMO from providing the same treatment to a patient who wishes to receive it in a different framework as well, provided that the patient has been informed of the possibility of receiving the treatment at the Specialized Medical Service center.
