A person who wishes to practice psychology in Israel must, by law, obtain a license from the Ministry of Health.
The psychology establishment is the authority in the Ministry of Health which is responsible for issuing licenses to psychologists, experts and instructors.
There are three levels of specialization in psychology which require licensing:- Psychologist - a process of obtaining a license to practice psychology and registration in the “Register of Psychologists”.
- Specialist Psychologist - there are six areas of specialization in psychology, which are under the responsibility and supervision of the Ministry of Health: developmental, social-occupational-organizational, educational, clinical, medical and rehabilitation.
- Supervisor - for each of the specializations within the field of psychology.
It is recommended that a person interested in obtaining psychological treatment first verify that the psychologist is registered in the Register of Psychologists via the Psychologists Repository. In the Psychologists Repository, licensed psychologists can be found, as well as those whose license has been revoked, temporarily of permanently. The information does not indicate whether the psychologist has had his/her license revoked in the past for a limited period of time (and who now own a valid license).
